JRB&M FEATURED ITEM

What we are offering as our JRB&M Featured item in June is a Third Reich 2nd Model Navy dagger by an extremely rare maker for a Naval dagger, Emil Voos. JRB&M purchased this dagger complete with the accompanying hangers and portepee during 2003 directly from the Dutch daughter of the original owner/wearer. This exact piece is pictured on pages 174-176 of my German Daggers of World War II - A Photographic Reference, Volume I published by Schiffer Military History. Also available in the Schiffer reference are not one but two photographs provided by the daughter picturing her father wearing this dagger. A collector would be hard pressed for better documentation.

CONSIGNMENT

2nd Model Navy Dagger by Ultra Rare Maker w/Hammered Scabbard, Portepee, Hangers & Documentation.

.Emil Voos, Solingen, stamped snake around tree stump within single-oval TM. This ULTRA-RARE Voos produced 2nd Model Navy dagger was obtained in Holland from the daughter of the original owner and is pictured on pages 174-176 of German Daggers of World War II -A Photographic Reference by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson who states in the photo caption on page 176 "Only two 2nd Model Navy daggers bearing this Rare Solingen trademark are known to the author." Another example of this dagger is pictured on page 310-311 of Daggers of the German Navy by Thomas T. Wittmann. In the photo caption on page 312 Mr. Wittmann states, "To date this is the sole existing example known by the writer to have been produced by this company". These statements attest to the rarity of Voos produced Navy daggers.

Gilded brass hilt fittings show only minor surface wear to the factory gilding on the eagle/swastika pommel and fouled anchor crossguard. Off-white celluloid-over-wood grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap.

Plated double etched blade grades EX++ showing only light surface wear with 100% of the light gray background frosting remaining in the fouled anchor and sailing ship etch motif as pictured in the above references, and is complete with the original red felt blade buffer pad. Dent free hammered scabbard retains virtually 100% of the gilding with portions of original factory lacquer remaining adjacent to the suspension bands.

The original silver bullion portepee, with dark age patina throughout cord and acorn, is affixed to the crossguard in a unique, modified reef knot tie, just as it was carried by the original owner. The original black moiré hangers show only light wear to the fabric with virtually 100% of the gilding remaining on the lion head buckles and fittings.

Original period photographs of the father wearing this actual dress dagger are included, as well as a letter from the daughter of the original owner. Superb example by an ultra rare maker! If you are a rare trademark collector, you do not want to miss this one! JRB&M has only handled this single rare Navy manufacturer in the past forty years! EX++ (26184) $3,950.
