Early Imperial Hunting Hirschfänger w/Deluxe Hilt/Scabbard Fittings & Skinning Knife. Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen, with upper line arched above two lower lines TM. As stated in, The Sword and Bayonet Makers of Imperial Germany 1871 - 1918 by John Walter, "Little has yet been discovered of this firm apart from the name and place of operation. …a general lack of Prussian weapons (although some are known) suggests that Weyersberg & Stamm spent much of its time fulfilling contracts placed by the government of Bayern. The company was working 1817-1872." Heavy cast brass hilt fittings show minor surface wear to the highlights of the ornate pommel cap in the form of a reclining hunting hound and crossguard with large quillon block with a raised reclining lion on the obverse. The quillons are in the form of a well detailed lion's head on the right and a panther head on the left while the oval clamshell features a European bear in a forest setting within a raised floral border. Fluted, ivory grip shows light wear/age with one small hairline crack on the lower reverse adjacent to ferrule, but no nicks or chips. Plain, polished, single-fullered blade measuring 14 ¾" long grades VG+/Exc. with minor surface wear/runner marks, and uniform gray shadowing/speckling, but no nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete with green felt buffer pad. Skinning knife measuring 7 ½" in length grades VG/ VG+ showing surface wear/graying to blade with a missing chip on the obverse ivory grip and several strands of copper wire wrapped around the upper grip (purpose of this wire is unknown). Medium, reddish-brown, leather scabbard shows surface wear and scuffs, but no rips, tears or creases, and no damage to the reverse stitching. Dent-free, deluxe, brass, scabbard fittings show light surface wear/age patina with two, side-mounted suspension clips on the upper fitting which is formed to accept the skinning knife. Obverse upper fitting features incised floral leaf borders on the upper portion above a raised motif on the lower portion. Motif surrounding a hunting horn and sword on the lower portion. The lower obverse fitting features a raised floral motif surrounding a motif of a hunting horn, Hirschfänger, and hunter's boar spear. Exc/Exc++ (24765) $1,995.
