Royal Yugoslav Navy Dagger w/Black
Scabbard. No Maker TM. On page 274 of World
Of Dress Daggers 1900 - 1945, Volume I by Robert
Berger, the author states that "the third type
scabbard was covered in black leather and there
is no anchor motif [between the scabbard bands]
or in black enamel with a crowned anchor motif".
An example with black leather covered scabbard is
pictured on pages 119-120 A Guide To Military Dress
Daggers, Volume IV by Kurt Glemser. The brass hilt
fittings show minor surface wear/age to Turks knot
pommel and crossguard with two dolphins facing a
sea shell pattern quillon block with a reverse mounted
blade spring release button. The white, solid celluloid
grip shows age discoloration, but no cracks or chips
and is complete with brass twisted wire wrap. The
center ridge, double-etched blade with ricasso and
scabbard release spring grades EX++ shows light
surface wear/runner marks primarily to ricasso,
but no sharpening, nicks to the cutting edges or
damage to tip, and is complete with a brown leather
buffer pad. The obverse blade features a raised
floral motif flanking a central royal cipher of
King Peter II, 1934-1941 comprised of a royal crown
over Cyrillic "P" with Roman Numeral II,
while the reverse blade features a floral motif
The brass scabbard features smooth, black enamel
panels with two impressed bay leaf pattern suspension
bands showing light surface wear with two minor
depressions to the obverse shell and minor loss
of paint where scabbard rings have rubbed against
the scabbard shell. Below the upper scabbard fitting,
in repousse' relief is a royal crown above an anchor
while the lower obverse shell features a raised
facsimile of Neptune above a trident flanked with
a floral motif. EX+ (25707) $1,895.
