Personalized Royal Bulgarian Air Force Dagger.Carl Eickhorn, serrated tail squirrel within small double oval TM. A photograph of this exact dagger can be found on pages 44 - 45 of World Of Dress Daggers 1900 - 1945, Volume I by Robert Berger. Gilded brass hilt fittings show surface wear to highlights with portions of the factory gilding remaining in the superbly detailed eagle head pommel with red glass eyes, floral motif backstrap with raised Bulgarian National crest featuring a crowned rampant lion, and stylized propeller crossguard in the form of a feathered wing. Obverse langet features an 8-cylinder radial aircraft engine while the reverse is deeply engraved with a monogram, possibly the initials of the original owner. Black/dark brown fluted celluloid grip shows light surface wear with one tiny chip on the upper right obverse, but no cracks. Plated double-etched double-fullered blade measuring 6 ¼" in length grades EX++ showing only light surface wear with no specks, lifting, or damage to the cutting edges. Obverse blade features a floral motif flanking a central blued panel with the motto, "For God, King, and Fatherland" in Cyrillic letters. Reverse blade features a floral motif flanking a center blued panel with the crowned cipher of King Boris III in raised relief. Blade is complete with tan suede buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard shows minor surface wear to the black enamel with one small spot of missing paint on the lower obverse shell, but no crazing or lifting. Upper, center, and lower gilded brass scabbard fittings feature a floral design with twisted rope suspension bands on the upper and center fittings. Lower fitting features an eagle's talon clutching a tiny brass sphere. Nice personalized example of a Royal Bulgarian Air Force dagger. EX+ (25710) $2,350.
