M-1941 Croatian Navy Officer's
Dagger. Braca Knauss, Zagreb (brothers Knauss,
Zagreb) straight 2-line TM. Photographs and description
of this pattern dagger can be found on pages 109
- 110, of A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Volume
II by Kurt Glemser and on pages 63 - 65, of World
Of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J Berger. This
superb example is one of the finest Croatian Officer's
daggers ever offered by JRB&M. Gilded brass
hilt fittings show virtually no wear with 100% of
the factory darkening remaining in the recesses
of the circular pommel with twisted rope border
and center obverse with raised inscription, "NHD"
(independent state of Croatia). The crossguard features
two dolphins facing each other with a repoussé,
entwined triplit design (3-strand interlaced decoration)
on the obverse and reverse quillon block. White
celluloid-over-wood grip with horizontal grooves
without wire wrap is perfect with no cracks, chips
and only faint surface wear. Plated blade grades
EX++ showing minor wear/runner marks with light
gray shadowing/scratches and a few tiny nicks to
cutting edges, but no lifting or pitting. Blade
is complete with tan leather buffer pad. Dent-free,
gilded brass scabbard retains 100% of the factory
darkening in the recesses of the shell which features
a pebbled area between the two repoussé suspension
bands and rings with the triplit design above the
upper band. Below the lower band, the scabbard is
decorated with a combination of triplit and entwined
trefoil designs. The top of the scabbard throat
is stamped with the Braca Knauss, Zagreb trademark.
Superb Croatian example in virtually unissued condition
with only minor wear/age to blade. EX++/Near MINT
(26000) $1,395.
