German
National Railway System [Deutsche Reichsbahm]
In
1933, the German government established the Bahnschutz
(railroad special protection force). This organization,
the personnel of which were drawn from railroad employees,
was responsible for the protection of the railroads in time
of war and civil disorder. Units were armed with rifles
and machine guns and charged with maintaining law and order
on railway property and preventing larceny, espionage and
sabotage. In 1937, Hitler brought the German Railway System
under complete national control. In addition to the regular
units, there alo existed a similiar but distinctive unit
identified as the Reichsbahn Wasserschutz Polizei (Railway
Water Protection Police). The mission of the latter unit
was security of railroad facilities associated with harbors,
canals and inland waterways. For more information click

the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich", or some of the
other reference books that we offer. For more information
on the daggers of the German Railway, see pages 111–117
of "Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich,
Volume VIII".
