2nd Model
Luftwaffe Dagger w/Portepee. Paul Weyersberg,
Solingen, sword within wreath double-oval TM. This
dagger was recently obtained from the nephew of
a New Jersey WW II veteran who shipped it back as
"war booty" in 1945. Natural finished
aluminum hilt fittings show light surface wear with
factory darkening remaining in the recesses of the
well detailed pommel with hand-enhancing to the
outer oak leaf motif and crossguard with raised
oak leaf motif on the upper surfaces of the quillons.
The pommel swastikas show faint vestiges of the
factory gilding on the raised edges, but no gilding
remains on the flats of the swastikas. Light yellow,
solid celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or
chips, and complete with tight "spongy"
wire wrap. Plated blade grades EX+ showing surface
wear/runner marks and minor gray speckling, but
no nicks to the lowecutting edges. Reverse blade
is stamped with a Waffen-Amt stylized eagle and
the number "5", and is complete with a
blue pebbled leather buffer pad. Dent-free, steel
scabbard shows wear/dark age patina to the frosted
silver factory finish with portions of the frosting
remaining in the recesses of pebbled panels and
oak leaf embellishment on the lower scabbard. The
scabbard throat is retained by two headless, side
mounted screws. The 23cm portepee grades EX showing
wear/age with fraying to the cord and is missing
the slide. EX+ (26290) $775.
