Presentation Third Reich Lion Sword w/Double-Etched
Blade. Carl Eickhorn, stamped squirrel inside double
oval TM. An illustration of this pattern sword appears
in the Eickhorn Kundendienst as Patent=Offiziersäbel
Nr. 1312. Early gilted brass hilt fittings show
virtually no wear to highlights with 100% of the
muted, honey-gold, fire gilting remaining on the
lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished
backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule, as well as crossguard
with heavily chased crossed swords and oak leaves
on the obverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood
grip is perfect with no cracks, chips or damage,
and is complete with triple, twisted copper wire
wrap. Plated double-etched blade measuring 32 ½"
in length grades EX++ showing minor surface wear/runner
marks and faint age speckling, but no lifting or
nicks to cutting edge and is complete with brown
leather blade buffer pad. Obverse and reverse blade
feature an etched pattern which appears in the Eickhorn
Kundendienst as number "3240", and consists
of 13 1/8" long panels with a raised floral/geometric
motif on a frosted gray background with 100% or
the frosting remaining. The obverse features a central
presentation inscription in raised gothic letters
"Wehrführer Wolter 1909 - 1934" with
the reverse inscribed "k. k. Eschweiler".
Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 98%
of the original black enamel showing light surface
crazing and a few specks of missing paint primarily
to drag. Superb early Eickhorn example with rare
double-etched presentation blade that could be researched.
Ex++ (23479) $3,495.
