M-1892 Artillery Foot Soldier's Sword Bayonet w/Lion
Head Pommel. No Maker. Illustrations of similar
examples of this heavy bayonet/short sword appear
in both the Imperial WK&C (No. 168) and Carl
Eickhorn (No. 44) Sales Catalogs. Solid, one-piece,
cast brass hilt shows minor wear/age patina to the
large lion head pommel with solid eyes, plain backstrap,
ridged grip and straight crossguard with re-curved
quillons. Reverse crossguard is stamped with identifiacation/property
markings, "l.M.I.9.15." The Yataghan style,
matte finished steel, single fullered, recurved
blade measuring 46.5cm in length grades VG+/EX showing
dark age and some surface oxidation, but no pitting
or nicks to cutting edge. The black leather scabbard
shows light wear/age, but no rips, tears or creases
and no damage to the reverse stitching. The upper
and lower brass fittings show minor wear/age patina
with a depression to the reverse lower fitting just
above the undamaged lower ball. The obverse upper
fitting is complete with a box-type suspension devise,
while reverse upper is stamped with the "l.M.I.9.15."
marking matching the crossguard. Both fittings are
complete with retaining staples and are stamped
with the "Crown above L" royal cipher
of King Ludwig III of Bavaria, 1913-1918. RARE Bavarian
