Description

Carl Eickhorn, serrated tail squirrel within small double-oval TM. This textbook, “WWII booty” Himmler Honor dagger was recently obtained in the state of Kentucky. Early nickel-silver pommel nut and crossguards show light surface wear/age patina with the underside of the lower crossguard stamped with the bench number “1”. The upper crossguard is internally marked, “W * E” (unknown caster mark), while the lower crossguard is unmarked. The early ebony grip shows light surface wear with surface chipping adjacent to the obverse lower crossguard, as well as a tiny hairline crack on the upper obverse grip extending from the crossguard to the upper edge of the SS insert. The grip features early quality grip-to-crossguard fit, and both the nickel-silver eagle and SS insert are properly inset with no chipping. Mirror polished blade grades EX+/EX++ showing light runner marks, minor gray speckling, and a tiny nick to the lower left and right cutting edges but, no damage to the blade tip. The crisp, deeply etched SS-motto and Himmler inscription retain 100% of the medium gray background frosting. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 98% of the original anodization and factory lacquer with no crazing or oxidation. Nickel-silver scabbard fittings with unturned screws show light surface wear/age patina matching the hilt fittings with a depression and small split to the right seam of the lower ball. NOTE: JRB&M can provide the purchaser the name of an individual who can expertly repair this small defect. Accompanying the black leather hanger with early nickel-silver buckle and unmarked clip grades EX++ showing minor wear with no rips or tears to leather and light age patina to the nickel-silver fittings. Nice textbook example of a RARE Third Reich dagger! (26684)
