Description

Gilted brass hilt fittings show only faint wear with virtually 100% of the factory fire gilting remaining to both highlights and recesses of the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, heavily-chased oak leaf backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule, as well as open-wing eagle with hand-enhanced features on obverse langet. Underside of crossguard is “Ges.Gesch” marked. Black celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and with tight twisted triple wire wrap. Plated, 5″ portion of blade grades excellent+ / excellent++, with light age, one speck of lifting, is double marked with Pattern “No. 5”, and complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. An example of this pattern langet eagle appears on page 116 of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by LTC John R. Angolia. Superb example! Near MINT (20419A)
