Description

Carl Eickhorn, etched squirrel holding sword TM.  Silver-plated hilt fittings show dark, gun-metal gray, age patina with much factory darkening remaining in the recesses of the well detailed oak leaf embellished pommel, ferrule and crossguard with Eickhorn 1st pattern eagle and  swastika.  Eagle features superb wing feathering, and handwork to the checkering on the eagle’s chest and legs as pictured on page 24 of Exploring the Dress Daggers of the German Army by Thomas T. Wittmann. Medium orange, solid celluloid grip has two small chips on upper obverse and one tiny hairline crack on lower obverse adjacent to ferrule, but no other damage. Mirror polished blade grades EX++/near MINT showing light surface wear/runner marks to flats of blade and one miniscule nick to lower right cutting edge, but no graying or pitting, and is complete with black leather buffer pad.  Dent-free, silver-plated scabbard shows light dark, gun-metal gray, age patina matching the hilt fittings, with minor surface wear/oxidation to shell. Scabbard features the early beveled edge Eickhorn pattern suspension bands, with the thick throat and reverse, center mounted, flat-head screw normally associated with Eickhorn Army daggers.  The 42cm portepee grades VG showing much wear/fraying to cord with wear to acorn. Standard hangers show wear to fabric with wear to silver plating over brass upper box-type fitting, buckles, slides, and lower clips. Nice combination w/uniform dark age patina/factory finish.
