Attributed Imperial Navy Dagger. CARL EICKHORN, SOLINGEN double oval stamped “rat tail” squirrel TM. Gilded brass hilt fittings show almost no surface wear/age patina to highlights with 100% of the gold factory gilding remaining to the Eickhorn pattern Imperial Crown pommel and fouled anchor crossguard with the larger quillon block found on Eickhorn examples. The off-white celluloid-over-wood grip, as used by Eickhorn, shows almost no surface wear with no visible cracks or chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap as used by Eickhorn. Plated double-etched blade grades EX++/near MINT showing only very minor surface wear/runner marks primarily to the obverse and reverse ricasso but, no nicks to the cutting edges. Blade is complete with off-white felt blade buffer pad as used by Eickhorn and retains 99% of the light gray background frosting in the fouled anchor and floral motif etch pattern. Gilded brass lightning bolt scabbard shows almost no wear and features scabbard bands which are constructed as part of the scabbard and NOT separate. This dagger was purchased by the consigner directly from the Rolf Niedermeyer family in Bremen and includes a large photograph of Niedermeyer’s unit and a set of lower rank shoulder boards and buttons.
