Austro Hungarian Navy Officer’s Dagger w/Etched Personalized Blade

No Maker TM. A photograph of a similar Austro Hungarian Navy dagger can be found on page 29 of World Of Dress Daggers 1900 – 1945, Volume I by Robert Berger. The heavy silver hilt fittings show minor surface wear/dark age patina to the Turks knot pommel and crossguard with two dolphins facing a sea shell pattern quillon block with a reverse mounted blade spring release button. The off-white, simulated ivory grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete with twisted wire wrap. The center ridge, double-etched blade with ricasso and scabbard release spring grades EX++ shows light surface wear and some minor speckling primarily near tip, but no sharpening or nicks to the cutting edges and is without a buffer pad. The obverse blade features a raised floral motif flanking facsimile of the Austrian, double-headed eagle crest while the reverse blade features a floral motif flanking a facsimile of the Hungarian crest. The lower obverse blade is personalized with the inscription, “K. u K. Tegethoff 1900” (The battleship “Admiral Tegethoff, the third largest battleship in the Austro Hungarian Navy, was commissioned in 1900). The dent-free, heavy silver scabbard features pebbled panels with two impressed bay leaf pattern suspension bands showing only minor surface wear/dark age patina to the obverse/reverse shell. A smooth panel below the upper scabbard fitting features a raised fouled anchor while the lower obverse fitting features a raised facsimile of Neptune above a trident flanked with a floral motif.
