Description

Knight’s helmet, (WKC) stamped TM. This pattern Fire Official’s dagger/bayonet with standard fittings is illustrated in the Imperial WK&C sales catalog as No. 113 (Feuerwehr-Seitengewehr für Elass-Lothringen).  Ornate gilded brass hilt fittings show light surface wear to the spherical pommel with incised swirl motif and crossguard with large quillon block and down-turned quillons with raised floral motif.  Both obverse and reverse quillon block feature raised crossed fire axes. Much of the original fire gilding remains in the recesses of both pommel and crossguard. Black, fluted bakelite grip shows light surface wear with one small hairline crack on the lower obverse adjacent to the crossguard, but no nicks or chips.  Straight, polished, single edged,  steel blade with 4 ½” false edge, measuring 16” in length grades VG+/EX showing uniform wear/age with on one area of pitting on lower obverse/reverse approximately one inch from the point, but no damage to the point. The spine of the blade is distributor marked, “D.A. NOHASCHECK HOFSCHWERTFEGER MAINZ “ (D.A. Nohascheck Court Sword-cutler Mainz) in raised block letters.  Black leather scabbard shows surface wear to leather, but no rips, tears, or creases, and no damage to the reverse stitching, and features two unadorned upper and one lower fitting. Both upper fittings are complete with suspensions rings and the uppermost fitting has one small depression on the lower obverse and is stamped on the reverse, “1”. Both the upper and lower fittings are complete with brass staples. See Pages 55-93 of the Johnson reference Imperial German Edged Weaponry  Volume Three for more examples of these rare daggers. EX.
