Description

Carl Eickhorn, squirrel with serrated tail within small double-oval TM.  Silver-plated hilt fittings show dark, uncleaned age patina to well detailed oak leaf embellished pommel, early ferrule with well detailed oak leaves, and crossguard with Eickhorn 1st pattern eagle. This eagle features superb wing feathering, and handwork to the checkering on the eagle’s chest and legs as pictured on page 24 of Exploring The Dress Daggers of the German Army by Thomas T. Wittmann.   Light yellow, solid celluloid grip shows minor surface wear with one tiny nick to center left grip swirl, but no hairline cracks. Plated blade grades EX/EX+ surface wear/runner marks and light gray shadowing, but no pitting or nicks to cutting edges, and is complete with dark brown leather blade buffer pad.  Silver-plated scabbard shows dark, age patina matching the hilt fittings with one small depression on the lower obverse shell and is complete with the thick throat and early style side-mounted, flat-head screws  as used by  Eickhorn on early Army daggers. The scabbard features superbly detailed oak leaves on the early beveled suspension bands.EX+/EX++  (25640)
