Description

Pack & Söhne Solingen, large Siegfried Waffen TM. Photographs of this rare etch pattern appear on page 151 of German Etched Dress Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with some light gray speckling to the obverse pommel and two spots of oxidation/lifting to the reverse pommel and upper spine, but no damage to the cross guard. Pommel slot is complete with a brown   felt plug which, as indicated on page 249 of “Collecting The Edged Weapons Of The Third Reich”  Vol IV,  was worn by Aviation communications personnel. Black Bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips and feature the off-set screws as used by the Pack firm.  Plated blade measuring 24cm in length grades EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks with wear to plating near obverse tip,  but no nicks to cutting edge and is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad.  Obverse blade features E. Pack & Söhne 1938 catalog motif Nr. 4, “Flieger” comprised of a 6” long gray frosted panel with two-line remembrance of service time inscription, “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN MEINE DIENSTZEIT”  in block letters flanked on the left by a floral etch and on the right by the raised motif of a Heinkel HE-46C aircraft. The etched panel retains 100% of the frosted background finish.  Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the original black enamel showing light surface wear/crazing, a spot of oxidation on the center obverse and missing paint to the lower ball. Black, double-stitched frog brown reverse grades EX+ showing light wear/age, and the obverse appears to have been period dyed.  but no damage to the stitching. Nice Pack example with RARE etched pattern blade.  EX+
