Carl Eickhorn, serrated tail squirrel over C.E. double-oval TM. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show superb detail to eagle head pommel and oak leaf embellished crossguard with minor wear to highlights. But no major loss of plating. Reverse crossguard is stamped, “L.M.197.” (Landjägerei/Rural Constabulary property, administrative district Münster, weapon number 197″. Dark brown stag horn grip plates show light surface wear with one small crack on the upper reverse adjacent to pommel. The Third Reich Police eagleis properly pinned to the obverse plate. Grip plates show evidence of being cut down during refurbishing as there are holes on the lower obverse/reverse where rivets were previously inserted. Plated blade grades EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks and some minor graying towards tip where blade was shortened at the time the original Weimar clamshell was removed. Spine of blade is Waffen-Amt marked with a ” * over K “, and blade is complete with brown leather buffer pad. Brown leather scabbard shows light surface wear/minor scuffing with one minor crease on lower obverse, but no rips, tears or damage to the reverse stitching. Nickel-plated scabbard fittings show light surface wear with a few minor depressions to the lower fitting and are complete with both retaining staples. Upper fitting is stamped with the matching Rural Constabulary and weapon number, “L.M.197.” The original brown leather four-rivet, triple-stitched frog shows light surface wear but no rips or tears to stitching, and is complete with a Near MINT/MINT Police NCO portepee in correct tie. Nice Rural Police Bayonet combination that is becoming difficult to obtain on today’s collector market. EX+
