Description

No maker TM. See pages 76 – 80 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany for information and photographs on this pattern dagger and scabbard. Brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to the peened-type flaming ball/”waves” pommel and crossguard with fouled anchor motif on the obvers/reverse quillon block. Black celluloid grip shows only light surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap. Plated, long ricasso, double-fullered blade, as pictured on page 77, center of the above reference, stiletto style blade grades EX/EX+ showing light surface wear and minor spotting primarily to ricassos and several faint nicks to cutting edges, but no peeling or lifting. Blade is complete with red felt buffer pad and a bowed spring to retain the dagger in the scabbard. The dent-free, gilded-brass, hammered scabbard shows light surface wear with portions of gilding remaining and is complete with reef knot suspension bands. The scabbard throat is retained with one round head screw. The original to the piece, silver bullion portepee shows light age patina and minor wear, but no fraying or damage. Nice original piece. EX+/EX++ (25561) $2,350.
