Description

M-1937 Italian MVSN Dagger w/Hangers. No maker. An example of this pattern dagger with white grip plates can be found on page 151 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Cast aluminum hilt fittings show light surface wear with no damage to the eagle head pommel and upturned crossguard. Black bakelite grip plates show only light surface wear with no cracks or chips, and complete with is the brass Italian Fasces emblem attached to the obverse grip plate. Plated, tapered cross-section blade grades EX++/Near MINT showing faint surface wear only with no shadowing, lifting or pitting and no nicks to the cutting or false edge. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 98% of the original black enamel, showing only a few specks of missing paint primarily to the lower reverse shell. Gilded brass fittings, to include throat, scabbard bands, and lower fitting show light surface wear/age patina with one area of missing plating on the reverse lower fitting. Dagger is complete with gilded brass chain hanger with 4 upper and 7 lower rings attached to a large brass “M” which, in turn, is connected to a gilded brass snap with large right-facing Roman eagle above the letters, “SPQR”, Senatis Populus Que Romanus (Senate and People of Rome). Hanger shows light surface wear/age patina. Nice example complete with 1st pattern chain hanger. EX++ (26892) $1,395. HOLD
