Description
This bayonet is double stamped with the “Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie., Solingen” on reverse and the knight’s head emblem on the obverse side. The edge of the blade has the numbers “B367” and the blade has speckling throughout. The grip is in MINT condition with stag grip plates showing no damage. The wreathed national eagle grip emblem is properly set and also in MINT condition. The eagle head pommel numbered “05” near the crossguard plus the oakleaf crossguard are in great shape, showing only very minor wear and age. The original leather buffer pad is present. The scabbard is black leather, has rippling down the obverse side from age and wear and has a crack in the leather along the left edging approximately 1.5” long. The upper scabbard fitting is numbered “B328”, engraved with “Augsburg 1939” and has the original screw in place. The lower scabbard fitting has a couple dents near the ball which also has a couple small dings. It has its original frog, made of black patent leather and shows some age deterioration, however the leather remains supple as so often they become rock hard and brittle. The reverse side of the oakleaf crossguard and the upper fitting on the scabbard have matching numbers “S.B. 5546”.
