Description

No Maker TM. A similar example is pictured on page 223, left of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany. Brass hilt fittings show minor wear/age/patina to pommel and crossguard with one minor depression to reverse pommel which is peened to the blade. Black horn grip is wrapped with steel wire and shows a 1″ long crack on the lower obverse above the crossguard. The double-etched,center ridge blade shows light surface wear/minor darkening to the etched Fireman/double floral motif with ladders and hoses. The point is needle like and the blade shows no sharpening, and is complete with leather buffer pad. The black leather scabbard contains a brass fitting with double hanger rings on the top and a brass fitting on the bottom. The fittings are secured with staples and both staples are present. The scabbard body is creased, but this resulted in only minor separation of the reverse stitching. The reverse upper scabbard fitting is hand engraved in script letters, “Ihrem Oberführer das active Corps der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Freidenau 9.3.91.” Date and city should assist in identification of original owner.
