Description

No Maker. Although unmarked the blade etch appears to be a variation of motifs that appear in the early Eickhorn sales catalogs. Gilded brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to the plain hilt/spine, unadorned knuckle-bow, crossguard and clamshell with fluted motif. Dark brown stag horn grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips, and are complete with three brass acorns without oak leaves on both obverse and reverse grip plates. Polished, double-etched blade grades EX++ showing minor surface wear/runner marks and minor dulling to the tip, but no graying, speckling or nicks to cutting edge, and is complete with green felt buffer pad. Obverse blade features a floral motif with hunting hound flanking a forest scene of stag and two does while the reverse blade features a floral motif and roebuck flanking a forest scene of a hunter aiming/shooting at a stag. Both etched panels retain 100% of the light gray background frosting in the blade etch and the laurel leaf motif on the blade spine. Black leather scabbard shows minor surface wear and a few nicks, but no nicks, rips, tears, creases or damage to the reverse stitching. Plain, scabbard fittings show light surface wear/age patina with a few faint depressions on the reverse lower fitting, and are complete with both retaining staples. The reverse upper scabbard fitting is features the presentation inscription in script letters, “Ehrenschiesspreis 1938 gest. O.d. Kriegs – Kameradschaft ehem. 3er Jäger” (Honor shooting prize 1938 presented by the War association of the former 3rd Rifle Battalion). The 3rd Jäger Battalion was garrisoned in Neustetten located approximately 40cm SE of Stuttgart prior to WW I. Attached to the hilt is an original green/silver bullion portepee in EX+ condition. Nice presentation Subordinate example. EX+ (25522)
