Robert Herder, Solingen with windmill TM. This maker ranks as a “9” on the McSarr SA Rarity Scale. Nickel silver fittings show very minor surface wear/age patina with reverse lower crossguard group marked “Wm” (Westmark). Rich brown, broad-grained wooden grip, shows minimal surface wear with silver grip eagle and SA insert properly inset. Blade grades EX/EX+ showing runner marks and speckling throughout, but no nicks to the cutting edge. Deeply etched motto retains 90% of the light gray background frosting. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 85% of the original brown anodization with some wear/scratches primarily to obverse/reverse shell with much factor lacquer remaining. Nickel-silver scabbard fittings show light surface wear/age patina with no dents and no damage to lower ball or to retaining screws. Dagger comes complete with unmarked brown leather belt loop. An excellent early SA example by a rare maker!
