Description

No Maker. Although unmarked, a photograph of this rare pattern sword appears on page 128, upper left of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia as Emil Voos (unattributed) pattern. This superb sword, features heavy, gilded cast-brass hilt fittings with only faint wear to highlights and 100% of the matte, honey-gold factory finish in the deeply cast recesses of the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, raised, oak leaf embellished backstrap, knuckle-bow with central raised Wehrmacht closed-wing eagle, and crossguard with open-wing eagle on the obverse langet. Black celluloid grip shows only faint surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with superb, triple twisted wire wrap. Plated blade measuring 35 3/8″ in length grades EX++/Near MINT, showing only light surface wear with minor gray speckling, but no lifting or pitting to plating, and no nicks to cutting edge or damage to blade tip. Blade is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the original black enamel, showing a few small nicks/chips to paint to the left edge and lower obverse/reverse shell, but no crazing or oxidation.
