Description

Helmet and base measure approximately 5 3/4″ in height.  Oval base is approximately 7 3/4″ in length.  Raised base has “1870” and “1871” engraved on the front, as well as battles from the Franco-Prussian War, such as Paris, Worth, Orleans, etc.  Helmet itself is a work of art, featuring all brass fittings.  Features metal scaled brass Officer chin strap.  Beautiful eagle attached to the obverse features a cloisonne Guard emblem on the front.  Spike is very nice and has four stars.  Black body of the helmet appears to have been professionally repainted.  The unusual part about this helmet, is that by turning the spike, a bell inside the helmet is activated.  This was most likely used in the Officers’ Mess for signaling that dinner was ready.  Helmet is supported on four sides by three round ball legs.  There were only five Guard Infantry Regiments in the German Army.  Absolutely gorgeous war relic that would be the centerpiece of any Imperial edged weapon collector.  Museum quality!   Exc++
