No maker. Although unmarked, this perfectly-scaled Kinder Säbel, recently obtained in Germany, closely resembles the E. & F. Hörster swords pictured on pages 98 and 99 of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by LTC John R. Angolia. Gilded brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina with traces of gilding remaining in the recess of the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished knuckle-bow and open-winged eagle with heavily feathered legs on the obverse langet. NOTE: The right eye of the lion head pommel is missing and the eye socket has been filled with red paint to resemble the red glass eye. Black celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete with triple twisted brass wire wrap. Plated, double-etched blade measuring 23 7/8″ in length grades EX++/Near MINT with light runner marks on the ricasso only and several tiny specks of graying, but no nicks or damage usually found on Kinder Säbel blades. Obverse blade features a 13 ¼” etched panel with floral motif, standing knight in armor and the central inscription, “Franz-Wilhelm Jwohn” in raised Gothic letters. Reverse blade features a 13 ¼” etched panel with floral motif, display of military equipment, and central etched motif of jousting knights on horseback. Etched panels retain 100% of the light gray background frosting and blade is complete with tan leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 99% of the original black enamel, showing only light surface wear/crazing.
