The Rifle Association was a non-political, non-military, organization of volunteer members who were interested in marksmanship. The Association was similar in nature and scope to the National Rifle Association (NRA) existing in the United States today. The primary objective of the German Rifle Association was to promote interest among the civilian populace in competitive sport shooting. Local subordinate clubs were organized throughout Germany, and competitive shooting events were common. As the Nazis infiltrated the Association, the earlier social events absorbed definite political overtones. EX++.
