Description

No maker TM.  This sword was recently obtained in Germany and is illustrated in the 1908 Eickhorn sales catalog as pattern Nr. 170, Bayerischer Offizier-Pallasch “with fine chiseled hilt for all branches of service”.  Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with much factory darkening remaining in the recesses of the oak leaf embellished pommel cap, backstrap, langet, flat knuckle-bow and langet with rampant lion and Bavarian shield.  Black celluloid grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips and complete with triple silver wire wrap present.  Straight, plated, double-fullered blade measuring 33 ½” in length grades EX+ showing light surface wear with minor surface speckling/graying on ricassos and light sharpening to lower cutting edge, but no nicks. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 4 ¾” long etched panels with floral design and raised inscription, “In Treue Fest” (Steadfast with Loyalty) and complete with blue/black felt blade buffer pad.  Steel scabbard retains approximately 9o% of the possible period black enamel showing light surface nicks/crazing and several faint depressions to shell.  Scabbard eyelet and ring are attached directly to the scabbard shell as was customary for the Bavarian swords. The original, dark orange/brown felt storage bag grades EX++ showing only light wear with no rips, tears or mothing and no damage to the seams. The draw-string has been lost to time.. EX+
