Short KS/98 Bayonet w/Single-Etched Blade & Frog. E. Pack & Söhne Solingen, Siegfried wielding hammer TM. Photographs of this etch pattern appear on page 147, lower of German Etched Dress Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show minor surface wear/age with no lifting or speckling with original dark brown felt plug in pommel slot. Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips and are complete with the correct Pack style offset retaining screws. Plated blade grades Exc+/Exc++ showing only faint surface wear/runner marks, with no pitting or nicks to cutting edge and is complete with black leather buffer pad. Obverse blade features a neutral etch not shown in the 1938 catalog comprised of a 5 5/8″ long frosted panel with a two-line standard remembrance of service inscription in raised Gothic letters flanked by art deco style oak leaves and acorn motif. The sun-ray end borders are also in an art deco style. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the original black enamel, showing minor surface wear/crazing, but no major missing enamel.
