Description

Pet. Dan. Krebs Solingen around the sides of a shield with a stamped crayfish inside shield TM. This WWII veteran-acquired example, was obtained in the state of California. Documentation from the owner stating that, the [sword] “was brought home by a Captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers who was at Bastogne, crossed the Rhine, and was subsequently present at the liberation of a concentration camp. …I have no information on the SS Officer to whom it belonged”.  Nickel-plated hilt fittings show no wear, lifting or pitting to pommel, ferrule or knuckle-bow. The pommel cap shows a few tiny gray specks to the ribbed edge, but no nicks or damage. Underside or crossguard is SS proof-marked.  Black wooden grip shows only a few specks of surface wear to factory finish on highlights of several grip swirls, but no cracks or chips.  Polished, straight, matte finished blade measuring 33” in length grades Near MINT showing faint wear near tip and a few gray specks to obverse/reverse ricassos, but no pitting or nicks to cutting edge and is complete with white leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 99% of the original black enamel with only a few specks of missing paint and minor crazing. Dent-free, upper and lower nickel-plated scabbard fittings show virtually no wear or age with 100% of the black enamel remaining in the recesses of the upper scrollwork design and lower incised motif.  Scabbard throat is SS proof-marked. Sword is complete with original mouse gray felt storage bag with light mothing and a few small tears, and is complete with original tie string. NOTE: JRB&M has not and will not dissemble the sword to inspect for internal markings.
