Description

Stamped E. & F. Hörster, Double Oval TM. A photograph of this pattern sword appears on page 100 upper of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia as Robert Klaas pattern Nr.232. This illustrates again how the various Solingen factories exchanged parts. Polished brass hilt fittings show light surface wear with superb detail to the engraved, hand enhanced oak leaf motif one pommel/backstrap, ferrule and knuckle-bow with engraved, closed wing, Wehrmacht eagle on the obverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood grip shows only faint surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with tight brass triple twisted wire wrap. Plain, plated blade measuring 32 7/8″ in length grades EX++ showing light surface runner marks and a few faint surface “dings” to cutting edge but no graying or pitting. Blade is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the original black enamel showing minor chips to the finish primarily near tip but no lifting or crazing. Nice Hörster example recently obtained from a long established Virginia collection. EX+/EX++.
