Third Reich Dove Head Sword Nr. 1715 w/Superb Gilded HiltOriginal EICKHORN Solingen, small stamped squirrel holding sword TM. An illustration of this pattern sword appears in the Eickhorn Kundendienst as pattern Besonders leichter Offiziersäbel Nr. 1715 (Especially Light Officer’s Sword Nr. 1715) and is also pictured on page 80 lower, of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia. Gilded brass hilt fittings show virtually no wear to highlights with 100% of the matte, honey-gold fire gilding remaining in the recesses of the pommel, with Wehrmacht pattern eagle (the same used on the Lützow and Prinz Eugen Field Marshal series swords), ornate, heavily chased oak leaf motif on backstrap , knuckle-bow and ferrule. The obverse langet features crossed swords flanked by oak leaves on a stippled background with a plain oval cartouche on the stippled reverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood grip shows faint surface wear with no cracks, chips or surface damage, and is complete with triple brass wire wrap. Plated blade measuring 29 ¼” in length grades Near MINT showing faint surface wear/runner marks, and a few tiny specks but, no shadowing, lifting or nicks to the cutting edge and is complete with tan leather buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the original black enamel showing surface scratches/nicks to obverse/reverse shell and drag but, no major loss or factory fininsh. Superb sword and possibly even more RARE than the Lützow and Prinz Eugen Field Marshal series swords.
