Description

Stamped Paul Weyersberg Solingen, Sword and wreath within double-oval TM. A photograph of a similar lion head sword with this pattern knuckle bow/crossguard appears on page 131 lower, of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia as a Weyersberg unattributed pattern. Gilded brass hilt fittings show minor age patina to the highlights with 100% of the muted, honey-gold, fire gilding and much factory lacquer remaining in the recesses of the well detailed lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished backstrap, ferrule, knuckle-bow and crossguard with superbly detailed open wing eagle flanked by oak leaves on the obverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood grip is perfect with only faint age but, no cracks or chips, and is complete with triple, wire wrap. Plated blade measuring 32″ in length grades EX++ showing only minor surface wear/runner marks and a few faint “pecks” to cutting edge but, no pitting, lifting or damage to tip, and is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. The steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the black enamel to the shell with loss of finish primarily to the lower obverse/reverse and drag with a depression to the lower obverse shell. EX++
