CARL EICKHORN, SOLINGEN with squirrel and C.E. in double oval early TM. Gilded brass hilt fittings show light wear/age to 1938 pattern eagle/swastika pommel and 1919 pattern fouled anchor crossguard with reverse featuring a central diamond design. As per Naval regulations, a Weimer period specimen dagger with a “replacement” Third Reich National Eagle pommel The off-white celluloid-over-wood grip shows almost no surface wear with no visible cracks or chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap as used by Eickhorn.  Plated single-etched blade grades EX++/Near Mint showing only minor surface wear/runner marks primarily to the obverse and reverse ricasso and no nicks to the cutting edges. Blade features two line dedication in blue panel which reads: “ SEINEM LIEBEN FREUNDE OTTOHEINRICH JUNKER! and KARL BRANDENBURG – WEIHNACHTEN 1927”: Your dear friends Ottoheinrich Junker! Karl Brandenburg – Christmas 1927. Both Ottoheinrich Junker and Karl Brandenburg served in the German Naval service during the Weimer period and Commanded U-Boats in combat during WWII. Ottoheinrich Junker was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 19 April 1942 while serving as the commander of U-532 and survived the war. Karl Brandenburg received the Iron Cross First Class and was killed in action in the Barents Strait on 5 September 1942. Dagger is complete with hammered brass scabbard and retains approximately 96% of the factory fire gilding and shows only one minor spot of discoloration.
