Balloon seller above the curved GEBR. HELLER, MARIENTHAL, b.Schweina/Thr. TM. The Gebrüder Heller Firm was located in the small town of Marienthal b.Schweina located in the Thüringer Wald near Steinbach, NE of Frankfurt. For more information on the edged weapons manufacturers located in the village of Steinbach, “the other Solingen”, see pages 271-295 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume VII. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear and dark, uncleaned age patina to the pommel and crossguard with no damage to the black enamel swastikas on the quillon block. Tip of right crossguard is caster stamped, “K”. Blue leather-covered grip shows minor surface wear with a few minor nips to leather but, no rips or tears and no damage to the seam. Plated blade grades EX++ showing minor surface wear/runner marks but, no gray shadowing, pitting or nicks to the cutting edges, and is complete with original blue leather buffer pad. Blue leather covered scabbard shows minor surface wear primarily to the lower right edge of shell but, no rips, tears or missing leather, and no damage to seam. Dent-free, silver-plated upper and lower scabbard fittings show minor surface wear/dark, uncleaned age patina matching the hilt fittings with one tiny depression to the underside of the lower ball but, no damage to the retaining screws. Scabbard throat is stamped with the DLV winged propeller with superimposed swastika. The integral brown leather hanger grades EX++ showing minor wear only with age patina to the nickel-silver retaining planchet and early unmarked upper clip. Nice Heller example complete with hanger.
