Description

No maker. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear/dark, uncleaned age patina to the oak leaf embellished pommel and crossguard with small slope to the brow area between the upper head and beak of the eagle. Reverse crossguard is jeweler engraved in Gothic letters with the personalization, “E. Demme”. Medium orange, solid-celluloid grip, age toned slightly darker on the obverse, shows light surface wear/age toning in the recesses of the grip swirls, with two hairline cracks on the upper obverse and one on the left side, all adjacent to the lower edge of the pommel, but no chips scuffs. Polished blade grades EX++ showing surface wear/runner marks with minor sharpening to the edges but, no gray speckling or nicks to cutting edges and is complete with dark brown/black  leather buffer pad. Dent-free, silver-plated scabbard with dark, uncleaned age patina matching the hilt fittings is complete with well detailed oak leaf suspension bands and one side-mounted flat-head retaining screw. The deluxe hangers grade EX+ showing age/wear to the bullion facings and velvet backings with wear/age to the oak leaf embellished upper fitting, buckles/slides and deluxe lower clips. Research in Das Deutsche Heer 1939 reveals only one “Demme”, a Reserve Hauptmann assigned to the staff of the Chief of the German Army General Staff. A photocopy of this documentation is included with the dagger. This officer could probably be further researched in German archives. EX++.
