Description

Carl Eickhorn, smooth-tail squirrel within small double-oval TM. Plain nickel-plated hilt shows light surface wear to dove head pommel, plain knuckle-bow and crossguard with light gray speckling, but no major lifting to plating. Black Bakelite grip shows light surface with one crack/chip on the underside adjacent to the pommel, and is complete with tight twisted wire wrap. Plated, double-etched blade measuring 29 ½” in length grades EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks, a few gray specks and a nick to the lower cutting edge. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 14 ¾” long gray frosted, double-etched panels are illustrated in the Musterbuch der Waffenfabrick Carl Eickhorn Solingen as Vernickelte Mannschafts-Extra-Säbel No 495. with only faint wear to the frosting. Obverse blade features floral motifs, motifs of military equipment and flags and the Prussian Eagle with flags flanking the central raised inscription, “Reiter Regiment No 14” on blue background. Reverse blade features floral motifs, motifs of military equipment and flags and the Prussian Eagle with flags flanking a central panel with a raised facsimile of a mounted cavalry charge on a blue background. Brown leather blade buffer pad is present. “Reiter Regiment No 14” was garrisoned in Ludwigslust located approximately 90km SE of Hamburg, as part of “3. Kavallerie=Division”. Anodized steel scabbard shows crazing and oxidation with several small depressions to the lower obverse/reverse shell. EX/EX+.
