Description

“30 Werkstatten von handwertern” 6th Edition by Esslingen a/N J.F. Schreiber.  Believed to be from 1850, this is a sought-after German children’s book that vividly depicts the most important professions and trades.  Thirty (30) double-page, colored, lithographed plates each depicting a lively workshop scene as the central image surrounded by the most important tools and manufactured goods of the trade.  Potters, stonemasons, farriers, coppersmiths, knife-makers, carpenters, rope makers, tanners, brush makers, cloth and hat makers, weavers, bookbinders and others.  No writing except on the cover to include Arbeit ist des Burgers Bierde (Work is the citizen’s beer), Segen ist der Kluhe Preis (Blessing is the clever price), and HANDWERK HAT GOLDNEN BODEN (CRAFTSMANSHIP HAS GOLDEN GROUND).  The binding is intact but separated from the pages, all pages remain attached to each other, the top corners of the cover are slightly damaged, some foxing and little moth damage, but remarkably good condition for being 175 years old with a cardboard cover.  Approximately 14″ x 9″.
