No maker. The overall length of Hirschfanger is 23”. It has a huge stag grip with 3 rounded brass fittings inset in grip. Complete with stag grip skinning knife intact. Approximately 90% of all original Hirschfänger skinning knives have been “lost to time”. Double-etched blade shows wear and fading on obverse side and depicts a scene with a doe and buck amongst the forest, while the reverse features a foliate design including a dagger, rifle and bugle. Spine of blade says “MOHR & SPEYER IN BERLIN” followed by leafs down the whole spine. Complete with black felt buffer pad. Brass hilt fittings show normal wear and patina. Below the deer hoof quillion is a separate clamshell fitting. The gilded Garde Star is inset in the clamshell and depicted a centered eagle and the wording “SUUM CUIQUE” around the eagle. Scabbard leather is near 100% with a perfect rear seam, brass upper and lower fittings show normal age/wear, have no dents and complete with retaining staples intact.
