Description
An extremely rare Chained Dagger with the “Gottlieb Hammesfahr – Solingen-Foche” TM on reverse ricasso of blade. It is uncommon to see one with a maker mark on the blade. Usually an officer or senior NCO who already had an M33 dagger would want to keep their original dagger so they would save on the cost and purchase just the chained scabbard that was available to those qualified for the honor. The blade on this dagger has the “MEINE EHRE HEIßT TREUE” acid-etched motto on the obverse side of blade. The blade has some normal runner marks, no nicks or chips to the cutting edge, has some minor speckling on both sides, is in EXC++ condition, and the tip remains intact. The nickel-silver crossguard fittings are in EXC++ condition, with the lower reverse side of crossguard bearing the set of personalized numbers “247267” stamped on the reverse side. The personalized numbers on the lower crossguard have matching numbers on the reverse side of the scabbard’s upper fitting. The grip is composed of a single piece of black lacquered wood and has a tiny chip on the obverse upper left corner (almost too small to see). The silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and the SS rune are properly inset in grip. The scabbard shows normal wear/age and retains 95% of it original paint. The nickel-silver upper and lower fittings show normal wear/age, no damage to the lower fitting ball, and are complete with all four screws. The SS chain has the octagonal plates (2 upper and 4 lower) which consist of skulls and SS runes and connect to the “Wotans”Knot” suspension clip. The reverse upper SS rune plate has the SS proof mark stamped in it.
