Description
“Z” within crowned shield, (Clemen & Jung Waffenfabrik, Solingen) TM. An example of this variation pattern dagger is pictured on page 241 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany. Silver plated hilt fittings show minor wear with uncleaned age patina and portions of factory lacquer remaining on the open Bavarian crown pommel and large capstan style Navy cross guard with heavy stippled quillon block without the hunting horn emblem. Ivory grip shows light age striations with hairline cracks on the left and right edges, but no chips or surface damage and is complete with tight, single twisted silver wire wrap. Plated, double-etched, center-ridged blade grades EX++ showing lifting primarily to the obverse/reverse ricassos and light gray shadowing near the tip, but no nicks to cutting edges. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 7 ¾” long light gray etched panels with a raised floral and vine motif. Blade is complete with original red felt blade pad. Medium brown leather scabbard with double incised lines on both obverse and reverse grades EX++ showing minor surface wear/age but no rips, tears, or damage to the reverse stitching. Dent-free upper and lower silver plated scabbard fittings show uncleaned age patina matching the hilt fittings, and are complete with undamaged reverse retaining staples which are numbered “5” beneath the staples. Upper scabbard fitting is complete with an undamaged obverse frog stud. RARE Royal Bavarian dagger complete with double-etched blade! EX++
