Description
This superb Meissen commemorative plate was recently obtained in Germany from the grandson of the original owner, a WWI German Army veteran. Plate commemorates the 110th anniversary of the Königlich Sächsischen Schützen Regiment Nr. 108 1809-1919 (Royal Sachsen Rifle Regiment 108 1809-1919). Research in the Histories of the German Army indicates this Regiment was assigned to the 23rd Division and participated in the WWI campaigns in Belgium, the 1914 battle of the Marne, the 1916 Franco-English offensive, the battle of the Somme, the Champagne campaign or 1917, the 1918 battle of the Somme and ended the war SE of Ghent. White porcelain plate measuring 9 3/4″ in diameter features fired green design on obverse with the Meissen crossed swords TM in blue on the reverse. Obverse green design features the central motif of a Sachsen Royal Crown above a motif of two Infantry shakos on an open book supported by a large laurel leaf sprig and an infantry horn. The central design is flanked by a circular oak leaf border above a facsimile of the Royal Sachsen coat-of-arms flanked by the dates 1809-1919. Superb veteran acquired Meissen commemorative plate.
