The “Kreta” cuffband was instituted on 15 October 1942 to commemorate the battle for the island of Crete. The cuffband was authorized for Luftwaffe personnel who participated in parachute, glider, or airborne operations on or over Crete, Kriegsmarine personnel who participated in operations at sear around the island, and Army personnel who were transported by sea to the island. The unissued cuffband is constructed of white fabric measuring 33 cm wide with gold and yellow Russia braid edging on the top and bottom borders. In the center in golden yellow thread is the inscription, “Kreta” in block Latin script flanked on either end with embroidered acanthus leaves. Near MINT.
