Description

This dagger was found in a police station in 1945.  No maker, which is correct for a 1936 chained SS dagger. This is the SS dagger many Third Reich collectors would like to have, but very few do because of the difficulty in finding such a piece. Nice black ebony grip with perfect fittings, some very tiny chips along the edge of the grip on both sides and a scratch just above the SS rune. The grip hilt fittings are nickel/silver and show normal wear due to age. Internal crossguards are deeply stamped “P” and “A” (Piel and Adey casters in Solingen). The beautiful blade grades EX++/NM with significant runner marks to both sides due to the tight fit into the scabbard, but the very tip appears intact.  Original black lacquered scabbard retaining 80% of original paint and one small dent on the upper part of obverse side.  All chain links have very desirable dark burnishing and one bears the SS runes stamping.  The upper and lower scabbard fittings are in Exc++ condition and the ball of the lower fitting has one dent in bottom center.  EX++
