Presented by the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin to Frederick Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1882-1945). Beautiful hand-crafted blade is 29 ½ inches with heavy inlay and engraving. Leather blade buffer pad is intact. Appearing with raised gold lettering on the spine of the balde is “J. Robrecht Hoflieferant, Berlin” (this firm were purveyors to the Court and nobility of Imperial Germany. Pommel is a Lionshead motif with “ruby” glass eyes. Entire hilt is decorated with heavy oak leaf and acorn throughout. Obverse langet features crossed cavalry sabers and the reverse langet is engraved with the royal crest of Princess Alexandra Grokherzogin von Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Entire hilt retains all of the original gold wash finish. Grip is sharkskin and wire wrapping is tight and excellent. Reverse blade features gold inlays with engraved crests, arms, crowns, etc. Blade is dated “1904” which was the year of her marriage to Frederich Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Scabbard is steel with 99% of the original black lacquer. Fantastic work of art and available for sale. MINT.
