Description

Side-by-side king’s head & knight’s head above WK&C TM. An illustration of this pattern sword appears in the Imperial Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie. Sales catalog as pattern No. 139 (Bergmanns – Schleppsäbel). Plain, gilded brass hilt fittings show normal surface wear with portions of the gilding remaining on pommel/backstrap, knuckle-bow and crossguard. A silver miners’ hammer and mallet insignia of the Mining Service (Bergbau) is pinned to the obverse langet. Black sharkskin grip shows light surface wear with one small nick to sharkskin/wooden base on upper obverse, but no damage to the tight triple-silver wire wrap. Plated, triple-etched blade measuring 32″ in length grades EX+ features 13″ long etched panels on both obverse and reverse with floral and military equipment motifs on light gray frosted background. Both panels, as well as the laurel leaf motif on the blade spine, show only minor wear to the background frosting. Blade shows minor gray speckling but no nicks to cutting edge and is complete with original red felt blade buffer pad. Black leather scabbard shows surface wear/scuffs and one dent just below the middle brass fitting on both sides.  No rips, tears or damage to the reverse stitching. Upper, center, and lower gilded brass fittings show traces of gilding and complete with all three retaining staples present. Each brass fitting under the staples is identically numbered “52”.  The original Miner’s gold bullion sword knot with black stripes grades EX+ showing stains from wear/age patina, but no rips or fraying.
