Stamped knight’s helmet above WKC TM. An illustration of this pattern police sword appears in the WKC- WAFFENFABRIK sales catalog as Nr. 1063 Polizei-Führer-Degen. Under provisions of the Decree of 17 June 1936 Reichsführer-SS, Heinrich Himmler assumed full power over the entire German police organization and as such many members of the police held dual membership in the Police and SS. This sword is an example of this dual membership policy. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show minor age/surface wear. The pommel top has the SS runes with nice darkening background around edges. The nickel-plated hilt fittings show normal wear with some plate flaking. Black wooden grip shows surface wear and some loss of color to finish. Polished, matte finish blade measuring 31 1/2” in length grades EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks, minor gray shadowing/speckling and no nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete with leather buffer pad. The reverse ricasso is stamped with inter-locking SS runes. Steel scabbard retains approximately 85% of the original black enamel showing minor surface wear/scratches with specks of missing paint on obverse/reverse. Nickel-plated upper scabbard fitting retains some of the factory darkening in the recesses of the raised guilloche design. The scabbard throat is without SS markings and both retaining screws are present and undamaged. The scabbard upper fitting has a clip stamped “DRGM M5/72/3 RZM”. Complete with SS portepee in EXC++/Near MINT condition.
