Description

W.K.& C., side-by-side King’s head and Knight’s helmet TM. An illustration of this sword appears in the Imperial “Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie.” Sales Catalog as pattern No. 73. Preussischer Artillerie=Extra=Säbel mit breitem Bügel.”. Plain, unadorned nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with some minor speckling to the knuckle-bow adjacent to ferrule but no major lifting. Smooth black, bakelite grip is perfect with only minor wear, and is complete with tight, triple twisted, silver wire wrap. Curved, plated, double-etched blade measuring 34 ¼” in length grades EX++/Near MINT, showing only light surface wear/runner marks with no lifting to plating or nicks to cutting edge. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 15 ½” long etched panels with raised floral and military horse’s heads on light gray frosted panels. Obverse blade features a blued, ribbon motif panel with raised “Remembrance of Service time” inscription, flanking a raised facsimile of Kaiser Wilhelm II while the reverse blade features a frosted panel with raised facsimile of an artillery caisson, crew, and mounted riders. Etched panels retain 100% of the light gray background frosting with only minor age to the blued background. Blade is complete with portions of red felt blade buffer pad. Post-1908 pattern, black enamel scabbard with stationary suspension ring shows minor surface wear shows surface wear/age/crazing with two depressions on the upper obverse and one depression on the upper reverse. Scabbard throat is missing one retaining screw. Nice, plain hilt Artillery sword with maker marked double-etched blade. EX+
