Description

Carl Eickhorn, back-to-back squirrels over C.E. stamped TM. An illustration of this pattern hirschfänger appears on page 101 of the 1908 Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn Solingen as Model Nr. 227, Schützen-Hirschfänger in Tombach. Tomback (copper and zinc) brass colored hilt fittings show surface wear/age to fluted pommel cap with peened tang, ferrule, and recurved crossguard, with fluted clamshell. Dark brown staghorn grip is perfect with no cracks or chips, and complete with three brass acorns without oak leaves on the obverse. Polished double-etched blade measuring 16 5/8″ in length grades EX, showing surface wear with uniform light gray hazing, and several tiny nicks to lower cutting edge. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 10″ long, lightly etched panels featuring a floral and military equipment motifs. Both panels show gray hazing to the background frosting as well as the laurel leaf motif on the blade spine. Blade is complete with original red felt blade buffer pad. Black leather scabbard shows uniform surface wear, rips, tears, creases or damage to the reverse stitching. Tomback, brass colored scabbard fittings show surface wear/age patina with several depressions to both the upper and lower fittings. The black leather frog grades VG+ with wear/age to leather and stitching and appears to have been modified from a K/98 combat bayonet frog.
